Best Buddies is Everywhere!
There’s been a whole lot of cameras flashing over the past few months here at headquarters, gaining tons of exposure for Best Buddies. The communications department has been hard at work getting interviews and photo shoots coordinated—one of the greatest public relations techniques that can be utilized.
In September, we arranged to have a photo shoot for CAPITOL FILE at pop artist Romero Britto’s studio in Miami’s Wynwood Art District. The shoot came shortly after the magazine sat down for an interview with Anthony K. Shriver and Britto, who have partnered together and worked closely with one another for many years. Britto, Shriver, and two buddy ambassadors — Jorge Morilla and Christopher Gay, who were both EXTREMELY excited to participate — all worked the camera and had a great time mingling with one another. You can check out the spread in CAPITOL FILE’s October issue here: http://capitolfile-magazine.com/digital-edition.
At the end of the month, we got to bring together an incredible team of Jobs participants for a fun photo shoot at Turnberry Isle Miami with Aventura Mall and Fontainebleau Miami Beach owner Don Soffer. The six buddies who participated, work as concierges for Aventura Mall, where the photos will be unveiled on Oct. 27.
The opportunities for Best Buddies exposure have continued to roll on into October as well. Anthony K. Shriver and Buddy Ambassador Jorge Morilla were interviewed on two different occasions, where the two expressed the tremendous importance of the Jobs program and the impact it’s had on buddies like Jorge. The first taping was done for a video tribute to Ryan Kavanaugh, CEO of Relativity Media, who will be honored at an upcoming Anti-Defamation League event. Kavanaugh has employed buddies at Relativity and has heavily supported the Jobs program at Best Buddies. The second interview they attended was for the CNN Headline News Show: “Newsmakers,” which will air in South Florida throughout the months of October, November and December.
Pat Lawson Muse of NBC Washington’s Viewpoint recently interviewed a few Best Buddies participants, who shared what Best Buddies is all about and why it’s so important to each of them: Sarah Pierson, Program Manager of Best Buddies Virginia; Alexa Rivas, College Buddy Director of George Mason University; and Caitlyn Donovan, Buddy Ambassador and member of the George Mason University chapter.
Promotional interviews for the upcoming Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Washington, D.C. have also been coordinated in the D.C. area. You can check out the NBC Washington interview with Jay Topper and buddy Erin Thompson of Rosetta Stone by clicking on this video.
Best Buddies staff are also very excited for the upcoming airing of CBS 5/KPIX TV Eye on the Bay’s half-hour special on the Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle event that took place in September. The special will air October 17 at 7 p.m. in the San Francisco, CA market. (The rest of us can keep an eye out for it online a few days following the airing.)
Getting the Best Buddies mission out there is what our job is all about—it’s what keeps the awareness for our organization going. We promise to keep it up!
