Paige and Eleanor: Thankful For Five Years of Friendship

IMG_0678This year marks Paige and Eleanor’s fifth Thanksgiving together. These two friends have made spending time together a part of their holiday tradition, and that’s something these two friends are truly grateful for.

“It just seems natural that we spend Thanksgiving together.”

When Paige and Eleanor were matched through the Best Buddies Citizens program, they really clicked;  therefore, it felt natural for Paige to take Thanksgiving to Eleanor when illness kept Eleanor from traveling to be with her mother one November.

“I took dinner over to her apartment, and some family members came along,” Paige says. “The next year she came to my parents’ house to celebrate with my family.”

Ever since then, Eleanor and Paige have made each other an important part of their holiday plans. As Paige’s family grows, their celebrations become larger; as a result, Eleanor is accepted by a wider circle of friends and family each year where she is embraced and loved for who she is.

“Eleanor and I have been friends for so long, and she’s so comfortable with my whole family that it just seems natural that we spend this holiday together,” Paige says.

By creating opportunities for one-to-one friendships, and fostering meaningful relationships like that of Eleanor and Paige’s, Best Buddies International is building inclusive communities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). It’s a tradition we’ve been proud to share since 1989, and we’re deeply grateful that you’ve been a part of it through your support.

Happy Thanksgiving!
