Challenge Yourself To Change Lives At The Fourth Annual Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Washington, D.C.


WASHINGTON, Oct. 2, 2013  — Best Buddies International, a nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities for friendship, employment and leadership training for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), is pleased to announce that Scott Keogh, President of Audi of America, will serve as Chairman of the Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Washington, D.C. Twenty-five hundred people are expected to participate in the Challenge – a charity walk, run and ride to benefit Best Buddies International – on October 19.

Ted Leonsis, CEO of Monumental Sports and owner of the Washington Capitals, Washington Mystics and Washington Wizards, and his wife, Lynn Leonsis, will serve as Honorary Chairs of the event. Read More…

Carmel, CA, September 8 Fifteen hundred people took part in the10th Anniversary Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle, a 100-mile cycling fundraiser from Carmel to San Simeon, on Saturday, September 7. The Challenge raised $4.5 million in total donations for Best Buddies International, a nonprofit dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Author, journalist and activist Maria Shriver and California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom served as Honorary Co-Chairs of the Challenge. Both shared of their time and talent over the course of the weekend, with Shriver delivering powerful speeches and participating in the 15-mile ride, and Newsom riding the 30-mile route. Shriver’s Team Maria was the top fundraising “non-corporate” team, raising more than $450,000 and Team SVB was the top fundraising “corporate” team, raising more than $630,000. Read More…

Carmel, CA, August 19, 2013 Best Buddies International, a nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities for friendship, employment and leadership training for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is pleased to announce that author, journalist and activist Maria Shriver and Lieutenant Governor of California Gavin Newsom will return as Honorary Co-Chairs of the 10th Anniversary Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle. More than 1,500 people are expected to participate in the Challenge – a charity walk, run and ride to benefit Best Buddies International – on September 7.

“What I love about Best Buddies is that it’s based on a simple principle — that each and every one of us needs a friend, needs a job and needs a community, and that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities should be given the opportunity to find all three,” said Maria Shriver. “I am so very proud to, once again, be the Honorary Co-Chair of the Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle. Our communications team has been working hard to ensure that the Best Buddies mission is being seen and heard — from stories in newspapers and magazines, to features on news stations around the country.

We’ve generated publicity from various events hosted this year, including the Palm Beach Gala, the Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Hyannis Port, and the 22nd Annual Best Buddies International Leadership Conference at Indiana University. The team has also produced public service announcements (PSAs) with Miami Heat superstar, Chris Bosh and the NBA draft’s number one pick, Kyrie Irving, who was chosen to play for the Cleveland Caveliers.
