Best Buddies Jobs: Shalonda


I wasn’t sure if anyone would hire me.

Just like most of us, Shalonda wanted to work and earn her own paycheck — but she had good reason to worry that she wouldn’t be able to get a job because of her disability.

In 2013-2014, a staggering 84% of people with developmental disabilities did not have a paid job in the community. A job — and the feeling of purpose, independence, and self-sufficiency it brings — could have been out of reach for Shalonda. But through the Best Buddies Jobs program, she found fulfilling, meaningful, well-paid work, where she knows she’s valued for her contributions. “My co-workers rely on me,” she says.

FOX Networks Hires Another Employee with Unique Abilities

Best Buddies Jobs is proud to congratulate Gabby on completing her first month as a Media Librarian at FOX Networks in the Engineering & Operations department! As a Media Librarian, Gabby pulls content from a vault of over one million tapes so that they can be delivered directly to our televisions through FOX channels daily. Once tapes are returned, Gabby is responsible for checking them back in through a comprehensive computer system, and re-shelving the m in their proper place. In such a detail oriented job, Gabby has already thrived and been able to exhibit her outstanding strengths in this position.

Las Vegas, March. 31st, 2015 – Building on its commitment to workplace diversity and inclusion, MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) is pleased to announce its partnership with Best Buddies Nevada to promote employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.

With the help of a $120,000 MGM Resorts donation, spanning 2014 and 2015, Best Buddies Nevada will support a candidate selection process that will provide persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) with opportunities for employment in jobs specified by MGM Resorts. At City Hall in Hialeah, Florida, a special program known as Project SEARCH is helping individuals with intellectual disabilities transition from school to competitive employment.  Project SEARCH, a partnership between the City of Hialeah, Best Buddies Jobs, and Miami-Dade County Public Schools, provides strategically designed internships in a business-led environment to a dozen young men and women each school year.
